Why Bathrooms Reward Good Sequencing
A bathroom packs demolition, carpentry, pipe and wire changes, waterproofing, tile, glass and paint into a few dozen square feet, and each step has to happen in its turn. Skip or rush one, and something usually gets torn out again.
With one agreement, keeping that order is our job. The itemized estimate shows each step, and if tear-out exposes a rotted subfloor or a slow leak behind the wall, you see the repair and its price as a written change order before it's done.
Parts of a Bathroom Remodel
-
Shower or tub
A walk-in shower where the tub used to be, a rebuilt shower with a properly sloped pan, or a new tub and surround, all with waterproofing carried behind the tile.
-
Tile work
Floor and wall tile set over a flat, stiff base and laid out ahead of time, so cut pieces land in low-visibility spots and niches line up with the grout joints.
-
Vanity, toilet and fixtures
Vanity, top, faucets, toilet, mirror and lighting, with whatever drain, supply and circuit changes a new position calls for handled in the same job.
-
Moisture control
A properly sized exhaust fan ducted to the outside, which protects paint, grout and drywall from the daily dose of shower humidity.
Choices to Make First
-
Same spot or new spot
Every fixture that stays put saves money. Each one that moves needs fresh drain and water lines cut through the floor or wall, which adds labor and days.
-
The only bathroom?
If the house has just one full bath, tell us early. We sequence the work to shorten the stretch without a shower and mark those days on the schedule.
-
Selections ahead of demolition
Some tile, vanities and glass are special order. Having them chosen and on hand before tear-out means the room isn't stripped bare and waiting on a delivery.
Bathroom Questions
Our tub is in good shape. Does it have to go?
Not necessarily. A sound tub can stay while the surround, vanity, fixtures and floor are updated around it, which usually shortens the job and lowers the cost.
What goes into turning a tub into a walk-in shower?
Pulling the tub, reworking the drain for a shower pan, waterproofing the walls and floor, then tile, a new valve and glass. Each piece shows up as its own line in the estimate.
Done Living With That Bathroom?
Leaky valve, cracked tile, a tub nobody uses? Describe what's wrong and what you'd rather have, and we'll explain the work involved and where the money tends to go.
